The Light of Buddha

The Light of Buddha

The Singapore Buddhist Lodge is a Buddhist and charitable organization in Singapore. Founded in 1934, it is one of the oldest charities in Singapore. The existing Singapore Buddhist Lodge underwent a major renovation with extensions of facade and construction of the new main prayer hall in 2017. Light Collab was tasked to design the lighting of the overall facade, exterior and key interior spaces such as the main prayer hall when devotees are praying or reading scriptures kneeling down.

The various 3D architectural and religious elements within the space took it up a notch

Layers of lighting has to be added cautiously to uplight the different layers of the 15 meters ceiling

Keeping lighting fixtures concealed and avoiding harsh shadows carefully reduced glare and reflected lighting, creating a soft focal glow on the main buddhist statue, which achieved the desired illuminance levels when the devotees are praying while kneeling down
