Fantastica - Extraordinary everywhere with Formica is a collaboration of Formica with 3 designers, Stolen, Forest and Whales and Light Collab to produce a design each using laminates from Fenix .. Light Collab's work, Pivoting Interstices is a collaboration between Formica, Light Collab and Superstructure. Inspired by the uniqueness of the matte properties of Fenix laminates, Light Collab would like to explore the non-reflective quality of the material with the medium of light.
Ordinarily, the material will cause a sheen of light or something really uncontrolled, depending on the direction of light and the angle of incidence with the material. Thus, a series of pivots were stacked and created, to allow flipping of the panels of laminates, and no matter which angle the user flips it, there is no disturbing reflection and also the light passes through the different sizes of gaps controlled by the flip panels. The pivots also creates interesting overlapping of light through the folds.
