Reflections from darc session 2026
The Light Collab team recently attended this year’s darc session, hosted by darc media on Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam. Over four days, hundreds of participants came together for keynote presentations, panel discussions and meetings with lighting suppliers. Despite the rain and overcast skies, the event was filled with learning, laughter and meaningful exchanges in an incredible setting.
Each day began with a keynote or panel discussion featuring a diverse group of industry professionals. We heard perspectives from both emerging and experienced designers on lighting trends and a thought-provoking question: Do we have a responsibility to educate our collaborators about the value of our profession? It was an interesting topic from both commercial and design perspectives, and one that is worth reflecting on as we continue to navigate our projects and collaborations.
The days we had the chance to sit down with lighting suppliers, explore products still in development and share feedback on fixtures that had yet to reach the market. Products we had previously only seen online came to life before us, giving us a better understanding of their capabilities and potential applications.
Of the 20 suppliers we met, six specialised in lighting controls. These conversations opened up further possibilities for dynamic lighting and offered a glimpse into the latest technological developments shaping the field. It was a valuable opportunity to look beyond individual products and consider how these innovations might influence the way we approach lighting design.
As the days came to a close, dinners and drinks provided a relaxed way to unwind and continue the conversations. One of the most memorable aspects of the event was seeing the next generation of lighting designers come together, connect with peers from their own countries and build relationships across the wider international community.
Beyond the products and discussions, darc media was a reminder of the importance of bringing people together. Hopefully, the connections made over these four days will grow into lasting friendships, future collaborations and, ultimately, a stronger and more connected lighting community.
We had a great time, and we will see you again at the next [d]arc sessions!
